Caring for Tennis Whites

Outside of following the care instructions for your garments, follow these tips to keep your tennis whites white and crisp. We all hate the dingy look, especially on a bright grass tennis court.

The basics

  • Wash whites separately and don't overload the washer
  • Don't use too much detergent (consider one with optical whiteners)
  • Avoid fabric softeners
  • Hang dry clothes outside if available or inside (use low temp if machine drying)

If you need more whitening power

  • Rinse with 1 cup distilled white vinegar
  • Add 1/2 cup of borax or 1 cup of baking soda to each load to boost washing performance if needed
  • Use oxygen-based bleach instead of chlorine to treat stains and pre-soak in a bath of hot water with oxygen-based bleach for at least an hour to brighten dingy whites
